Greening the Congress
“The meeting and events industry is one of the most wasteful industries, second only to construction” (USEPA)
CSLA Congress 2010 has been designed intentionally from the outset as a planet-friendly event. Strategies are focused on measurable results and integration of all aspects of the event delivery.
Key initiatives are:
1. Congress ECO Report Card: scoring of actions to minimize environmental impacts on 30 categories of practices related to the event venue, the hotel and organizer / participant behaviours. We are working closely with the Shaw Convention Centre and the Crown Plaza Chateau Lacombe Hotel, who have established environmental programs and procedures.
2. Congress Carbon Offset Program: the carbon emissions (participant travel, hotel and event venue) will be calculated by an independent consultant. Tree Canada is engaged to provide a Carbon Neutral Event offset tree planting program, managed under a prescribed protocol to ensure measurable delivered results.
3. Renewable Energy Powered Conference: electricity related emissions footprint is reduced by purchasing renewable energy from Bullfrog Power.
4. Environmental Legacy Planting Project: local tree planting project- site to be selected.
